Design Process

Step 1. Web Portal

Login to your Web Portal Account; If you do not have an account creating one is simple.  All files (help files, .tool files, .bord files, scan files, etc.) related to a project or design are uploaded to the web portal for one of our design teams and customers to view at the same time. The customer has the power and ability to either download our Blue Shadow FREE CAD software, or enlist a designer to create their custom board design.

Step 2. Create Project and your first Board

Within the OSAAP process, a project can represent an entire toolbox, with each board corresponding to an individual drawer. Creating these separations helps organize your tools effectively, streamline the design process, and ensure your project objectives are met. To help you get started, your OSAAP sales representative will often set up the initial project structure for you.

Step 3. Upload Media

Follow the upload process to add your design files to the project. You can upload CAD files, 1:1 tracings, or 2D images—most often captured using the OSAAP Blue mobile app. For smaller projects, a standard letter-size sheet of paper may be used as a reference instead of a light panel or station. These inputs allow our team to accurately capture tool profiles, ensure proper scaling, and create precise shadow board layouts, helping streamline production and minimize revisions.

Step 4. Upload Help Photo

Follow the upload process to include any reference materials that help communicate how you want your board laid out. This can include photos, sketches, help files, or other visual examples. You may also upload supporting documents—such as an Excel file with your tool list—to provide details for laser-etched text, including tool names, SKUs, or other identifiers. These materials help ensure the final design matches your layout preferences and labeling requirements.

Step 5. Free Design

You are welcome to create and upload your own designs; however, OSAAP also offers free design services to help streamline the process and get you to a finished product faster. A key part of our approach is eliminating the need for customers to invest time and money in creating CAD designs or maintaining expensive engineering resources. By handling the design work for you, we reduce cost, simplify the workflow, and ensure accurate, production-ready results.

Step 6. Approval

A notification will go out to you when your design is ready for review.  Upon login you will find the completed design with an approval pdf and help photos.  You can approve the design or decline the design and add notes for the changes you need.  A decline starts the design cycle over again.
